after my recent experience w/ nazis/the alt right online, i’m even more wary of any/all arguments being made about how free speech is under attack, etc.

free speech ideals are weaponized as a MAJOR coded alt right platform point & many do not realize this still.

the alt right is really smart about how to lure people in under the basis of advocating for free speech bc it seems undeniably correct as a talking point—of course free speech matters. but they want to be protected to spread hate speech, NOT free speech.

these people are IMPOSSIBLE to argue w/ and purposely gaslight and sealion (feigning ignorance/asking questions that they already know the answer to) you in order to wear you out.

it’s frustrating to see this imaginary “free speech debate” idea being championed by liberal academics because they are, as they often do, playing DIRECTLY into the hand of the alt right.

for the zillionth time, “cancel culture” in its current form is not infringing on anyone’s freedom of speech because choosing not to support/follow someone & encouraging others not to either is not infringing on your right to spew your bad opinions to your large audience.

this goes for R*wling (still has platform, following, access), T*cker Carlson (most viewed cable show but still says he’s being canceled!) and everyone in that ridiculous Harper’s (one of the most read publications around) letter.

original tweet is getting some attention so for context about three weeks ago i started to get harassed by nazis/alt right people online, it’s still going on, and i got doxxed. all b/c i came forward about an unrelated person sexually harassing me & outed that known neo-nazis +

run a literary magazine that many follow.

i’d recommend NEVER engaging these people bc it has been absolute hell & scary having them go after me, my family, my friends, my sobriety, etc
