Alright I’m starting Hannibal and might tweet a little about it so I guess this is kind of a watch thread?

I do like how gloomy the lighting and colour grading is.
Very blue and grey in most scenes.

It makes any red all the more punchy.

Call it morbid, but watching all the cooking scenes and how fancy the food and kitchen looks is just making me want to cook now.

I like the deer imagery in this series too.
I’ve always been a fan of deer being used in imagery in various ways and seeing it used in tangent with body horror is cool.

Also anybody knows me knows I enamoured with horns of all kinds so this series is ticking that box.

The suspiciously timed shots of food after certain scenes is very funny at times in a morbid way because you just know.

I must say despite how dark this is some of the stuff about trauma and how it’s processed is resonating personally.

The talk about trauma and death and coming to terms with things like terminal illness and how isolating it can be are genuinely very impactful.

Yeah eating while watching this really makes you intimately aware of every bite, chew and swallow.

It’s kind of messed up hearing the other investigators talk about what happened at a scene and then it cutting to Will looking at the whole thing like this because “oh jeez here I go again I have to do the thing where I get traumatised”:

I’ve never heard Hannibal sound more done than him telling this man “I’m not your friend”.

Hannibal tryna drop hints like “haha what if it’s NOT that man over there? And never was? ;)”

Will just said it and I definitely agree that the way these scenes are set up has a weird sense of elegance to them and it’s very creepy but I’m impressed that they managed to capture that in something so objectively horrifying.

This man sure knows how to handle some meats!

The usage of red in specific scenes but especially that one red wall in Hannibal’s office is not lost on me.

You really are just watching Will get more and more depressed and traumatised with every episode like he’s not some mega genius or superhero who can take the punches again and again, each time he has to do the thing you can see he’s visibly Not Okay.

Will constantly exudes “kicked puppy” energy the further this season goes, he looks so drained.
But also it feels like a pretty realistic depiction of something like this degrading at somebody mentally while they feel helpless and can’t step away from it.

This is definitely a cast of morally grey characters I will say that.
Even some of the “””good guys””” are complicit in regrettable things or do things at the expense of others.
But that makes it interesting.

It’s also very much “Will has things thrown at him and tries to hold himself together whilst having to also still do his job to save others and deal with the isolation that comes with it”.
