This thread is about our BRAIN and our EXPERIENCES. These are my inferences and insights- after binging a lot of books, articles, papers, and videos; analyzing the analogies, and following my observations.
Our experiences of reality are what our brain narrates us, based on perceptions created inside our brain. Our senses are imperfect, and so are our experiences of the objective world.
The world itself has no real pictures, sounds, tastes, and scents. Rather, we are encircled by various kinds of energy and molecules that must be translated into perceptions or sensations.
"I think that tastes, odours, colours, etc., are nothing but mere names for something [that] resides exclusively in our sensitive body, so that if perceiving creatures were removed, all of these qualities would be annihilated and abolished from existence." - Galileo
Sound is the perception of air pressure waves and sight is the perception of light, smell and taste are your perceptions of tiny molecules in the air and in your food. - Source @Brain_Facts_org book.
What we see is not real.
More details here:
We never actually TOUCH anything.
This video by @tweetsauce makes it more clear.
Some common misconceptions-
1. Contrary to popular misconception, we use all of the neurons in our brains, not just some small
fraction of them.
2. Contrary to common belief, all tastes are detected across the tongue and are not limited to specifc regions.
3. We always associate heart with our emotions and feelings. But the truth is, the brain both makes and uses emotions, which are value judgments that help the brain respond effectively to events.
