Olmec Colossal Heads: These can be found by the Gulf of Mexico. The Olmecs are one of the oldest Mesoamerican civilizations and these are believed to be images of all-powerful kings. The heads date between 1200 and 900 B.C. and stand over 9 ft tall.
Charros considered their Sombrero to be the most precious and expensive item they owned and in the traditional “Jarabe Tapatío” dance, El Charro places this on the floor as a gesture of love, loyalty and respect to women he’s dancing with.
The Jarabe Tapatío, also known as the Mexican Hat Dance, is considered one of the most beautiful traditional Mexican dances and it is the national dance of Mexico.
Aztecs and other Nahua people, believed when someone died, they traveled to Chicunamictlán, the Land of the Dead, and had go through nine challenging levels before the soul reached Mictlán, the final resting place.
Family members started to leave food and tools to help them on the difficult journey that was believed to take many years.

Mexican culture now carries on the traditions as Día de Muertos, a day of celebration to help their loved ones embark on their spiritual journey.
The story of La China Poblana is sad but empowering at the same time. She was an East-Asian princess that was kidnapped by pirates and eventually sold to a wealthy couple in Puebla as their personal servant. Eventually she was freed and treated like a daughter.
She was inspired by traditional Puebla clothing and started to combine it with the beauty from her culture to make new bold and beautiful dresses. At first her new dresses were seen as provocative by the men but the women of Puebla loved them and started to dress like her.
That’s just a quick summary and there are different variations but the China Poblana Dress is the product of East Asian Influence and was seen as very elegant, royal and an empowering statement. It’s a very complex dress to make and the price for a dress normally starts at $300.
When Spain colonized Mexico, the government made it illegal for indigenous Mexicans to ride horses without Spanish landowner permission. They had to wear something to indicate their class and differentiate between the Spanish.
“Charro” was a derogatory term for lower class Mexican Cowboys but after the Mexican Revolution, the Charro became important to Mexican culture and represents freedom, independence and bravery. Mariachi wear Charro Suits, which are very expensive, elegant and carry this history.
I know not all of these may seem as “appealing” as other ACNH items but there is history and proud representation behind it. So before you judge and think they’re ugly, please take some time to educate yourself.
