there is no ethical consumption under capitalism and blaming the consumer and putting it on them to stop using specific things that are often cheaper or to shop in different & largely american centric ways (like the overdone suggestion of thrifting) is useless AND harmful ❤️ https://twitter.com/jaynemendy/status/1280154275054866432
me seeing another galaxy brained yanks hot take on ending global warming being for poor people to thrift shop as a brit who Does Not Have That As An Option At All because thrifting culture only really exists in america and canada ❤️
also these threads always come off as classist, either intentionally or through pure middle-class ignorance. bitch let someone living paycheck to paycheck buy a pair of jeans from primark and a maccas burger and move your energy and attention to pressuring those actually in power
YOUR ACTIONS AS AN INDIVIDUAL ARE LESS THAN A GRAIN OF SAND ON A 10000 MILE BEACH AND THREADS LIKE THIS EXIST ONLY TO FEED THE EGO OF THE MIDDLE CLASSES WHO CAN AFFORD TO GO VEGAN AND BUY ‘ETHICALLY’ WHILE THEY GASLIGHT AND MANIPULATE THE POOR & WORKING CLASSES
stuff like this also always makes me think of that thing from the good place where they’re like so you decide to go vegan but then you realise your tomatoes and cucumber and tofu are all sourced from people essentially working as slaves so now what
like there is NO WAY for consumption to EVER be ethical under capitalism. it is an absolute impossibility and NOTHING any of us can do can stop it. going vegan? your food is unethically sourced. making your own clothes? your fabric is unethically sourced.
