3 Irving Shipyard executives, including president Kevin McCoy, travelled to the US and returned to Canada but were exempted from the 14-day self-isolation requirement, a company spokesperson confirms to the Halifax Examiner. 1/
The spokesperson says prior to the execs' travel, the company sought, and received, exemptions from both the provincial and federal governments. The exemption required them to return to Canada, get tested, and self-isolate until the test results came back, which they did 2/
I was not told where they travelled in the US, but the execs were on company business related to the shipbuilding contract. 3/
Unifor Local 1, which represents workers at the shipyard, expressed notified its members this morning and expressed concern, saying that all 3 execs are returning to work at the shipyard 4/
One of the three execs, Greg Thomas, is returning to the shipyard but will not take part in sea trials scheduled for this week. /5
I'm promised an official company statement, but I haven't received it yet. I'm asking the Dept of Health why the exemption was granted. 6/
My sense tho, is that one set of rules apply to most of us, and another set of rules to those considered more worthy. I'll have more later.
