yesterday in the evening all people (from extreme left to extreme right) gathered in front of the parliament building in Belgrade (the capital) to protest against the president and the government, because we're all constantly being lied to
the police showed up and pepper sprayed the crowd (20+ canisters) and beat people (who weren't violent) with sticks, especially the ones closest to the building
there has been no media coverage, except for one channel, which isn't influenced by the government. other channels started reporting much later, saying that the protesters are violent and are protesting against covid safety measures, which is a lie
the two reporters and cameraman are also being pepper sprayed and they (as well as the others) were struggling to see, breathe and talk

I don't know if there are any petitions and stuff like that yet (but I'll update this if I find any), but I just thought that people should know what's happening
we've had a big-ish amount of covid cases before the elections, and then suddenly everything was great and almost everyone was cured, and now that the elections are over we have even more cases than before. the people are sick of being lied to and controlled.
everyone has the right to peacefully protest and we have the right to know the truth about what's happening in our country. as one woman said yesterday, we pay for this country, so we have the right to know

when somebody lies about everything, you can't even begin to guess when they might be telling the truth. and how are we supposed to trust the people in charge of a whole fucking country if they're like that

also, a car (which might have been the police, and even if it wasn't, the police still had to let it pass) drove through a group of protesters and a tv reporter happened to be there at the moment so it was filmed, it almost hit them all

can the media stop LYING, the protests have nothing to do with safety measures, we all want to stay safe, but everything to do with constantly being lied to and controlled

update: rn as far as I know there are protests in Belgrade, Niš and Novi Sad; it's said that they were peaceful so far. I'm watching the news rn and they said that the police tear gassed the protesters rn, starting the first incident at the protests. and what does that tell you
they threw a torch at the policemen (who keep tear gassing them and the tv reporter is struggling to talk rn), and while I hope that people aren't getting hurt, let me just say: acab
update: the police just rode in on horses.... a lot of people are getting hurt
lmaoo I switched from N1 (which is CNN's tv) to rts (national tv) and on rts they're saying that the protesters are upsetting the police lmaooo tell me more jokes please
a nice update: there's been no incidents between a certain group of protesters and cops - the protesters moved aside and the cops left them alone, and both groups are just moving somewhere else
however, many protesters are getting arrested and there's a lot of tension
