I am now a level 6 weeb on WaniKani. this means I am 10% of the way through. kind of. I'm behind on my lessons & I am really messing up the meanings or readings of some items
turns out learning Japanese is hard
actual useful meme for the one other human being learning Japanese that might come across this tweet thread:
I've struggled with the readings for describing things about months. the readings you use for this (as far as I know) are
tsuki = つき
gatsu = がつ
getsu = げつ
つき is the odd one out as far as I can tell

just 'つき' = the moon
毎つき = every month
I found it convenient to remember がつ as months in absolute/specific terms. "that month, specifically"

一がつ = first month = january
二がつ = second month = february
六がつ = sixth month = june
this works as a question as well as 何がつ (nangatsu) asks "what month?", to which you can answer with an absolute month or a relative month, but it has an air of specificity to it. IDK it works for me.
then げつ is describes months in relative terms

来げつ = next month
先げつ = last month
先々げつ = month before last
何かがつ = how many months?
bonus meme: counting months may use a mix of つき for 1 and 2 and げつ for 3+ and you're just going to have to like, deal with that.
bonus bonus meme for the poor soul that read this far down:
毎月 can also be read as 毎げつ instead of 毎つき but don't tell anyone because that ruins the system I wrote down in this thread since every month is both absolute and specific
