Brave article by @princessjack . Prison abolitionists need to stop shouting down survivors. There is NO privilege in being raped and assaulted. I'm not joining you until you can tell me how, without prison, you would have stopped my abuser from killing me. https://twitter.com/princessjack/status/1280540909512404999
Ive heard middle class feminists tell survivors they are acting out of privilege and taking carceral solutions when abusers are imprisoned. How dare you? Do you know how HARD it is to report? Are survivors who are poor, disabled, POC, queer, privileged?
I'm a council estate kid with ethnic minority heritage. Don't sit in your ivory tower of academia and tell me mine and my kids lives are fodder for your cause. My abuser was from the same background. No, I don't want to see more of us in jail. But being marginalised does not
Absolve him of personal responsibility or make him any less dangerous. And he will abuse others. Tell me how you're gonna prevent that, don't tell me I'm guilty of upholding the system. The burden of proof is on you.
