Haven't been this angry over public affairs in years. Not sure what brought it to a boil today (it's not the pandemic, I don't think.)

I think moral imbecility combined with stupidity still depresses me more than it should.

things like someone claiming that the "laws of the market" are the same as the "laws of nature" as if we don't choose the laws of the market. Or people not understanding that deliberate mass murder of civilians is a war crime. "Civilians die in war." Uh... yes...

I think, frankly, that the US public is unbelievably degraded. I'm not sure if the US can be saved when the public is this stupid and unethical, so incapable of understanding moral first principles like "more deaths is worse than less deaths" and "deliberate mass murder is bad."

and, I mean, I'm talking about people who read me. This is a self-selecting group, nowhere near the average. And too many of them are truly degraded.

I'll be over it tomorrow or the day after, I expect. But, wow, I just can't keep up. American elites are deliberately mass murdering Americans with their pandemic response (no, it isn't just incompetence, at BEST it is depraved indifference, but even that is too generous.)

But Americans still just aren't getting it (oh, they're blaming Donald, but he's only the depraved-in-chief.)

"Everyone for themselves" in our world will lead to the collapse of civilization and the world's carrying capacity dropping 90%. And that's the good case scenario.

Of course, it isn't just Americans. They're just the most important and possibly extreme case of moral and ethical depravity combined with moral and intellectual imbecility.

It's humanity as a whole, as judged by actions.

We either are "one for all, and all for one" or we are all going down. This is not a situation where the rugged individualist prospers, this is environmental and social catastrophe at the global civilization collapse level with species extinction as a possibility.

And in the face of this, I have people arguing that Putin's war crimes weren't, or that America's weren't, or that market laws are laws of nature and market outcomes therefore tests of Darwinian fitness.

Fucking over everyone else will not save you. It is what has doomed you.

Anyway, heat in my room is dropping to "can sleep" so I should go back to bed.

But really, everyone for themselves (or for themselves/family/friends) and fuck everyone else creates hell. It has created hell.

Stop it, or you may wipe humanity out entirely.
