[THREAD] Thailand is looking safe, having been 40+ days without local transmission cases. Is there still any risk of COVID-19 spreading again? I list here some considerations: [1/7]
While most people coming into the country need to undergo quarantine, it appears that the government is granting exceptions to certain groups, including diplomats and UN officials [2/7] https://twitter.com/TostevinM/status/1279049838361894912?s=20
Likewise, it has been reported that a US general was allowed into the country without quarantine to meet with Thai counterparts. [3/7] https://twitter.com/ivetren/status/1280354735782940676?s=20
Those in State or Alternative quarantine (basically hotels) are being served by a number of staff. All precautions are being taken, but there's always a risk of an accident leading to the transmission of the virus. Same for the hospitals treating active cases [4/7]
The spokesperson of CCSA highlighted the risks at land borders: "More than 3,000 illegal migrant workers had been detained while attempting to sneak into Thailand over the past month alone." This risk is perhaps exaggerated, especially given the common practice of blaming neighboring countries and/or migrant works for Thailand's woes. But it still something to consider [6/7]
[END] Though I still feel quite safe and support the gradual reopening to tourism, it is important to be conscious of the risks still posed by the pandemic. I hope we don't have to go back to strict confinement. That's all, folks. [7/7]
