Saddened to see the children’s minister digging out one story from several weeks old Hull local paper that quoted one anonymous supermarket worker with no corroboration, to suit political narrative of blaming & shaming poor parents. https://twitter.com/vickyford/status/1280554619672854529
So in case you missed it, here’s the only source of the “parents trying to spend money on beer” non-issue that our children’s minister is now banging on about. This quote, from the article’s only source, seemed rather telling to me https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/news/hull-east-yorkshire-news/asda-abused-school-meal-vouchers-4127212.amp?__twitter_impression=true
Yrs ago in a supermarket queue behind refugee lady trying to use a voucher to get a little toy for her child, as well as food, & the cashier had to say no & it bloody broke my heart, the mum’s heart, the cashiers heart & the whole queues hearts. Vouchers suck. Give cash benefits.
