Rumors of the death of the “free exchange of information and ideas” have been greatly exaggerated.
Guess what? The following are all essential features of a free speech ecosystem!

• disagreeing
• shaming
• ostracising
• ignoring
• exercising editorial judgement
• ignoring people you don’t care to listen to
Guess what’s not a part of free speech?

• anyone being required to publish you
• anyone being required to pay attention to you
• anyone being prohibited from calling you names like, oh, say, transphobic that might make you feel bad about what you said
You know what’s actually a threat to free speech? The 741 incidents documented in this thread of police violence against protesters: https://twitter.com/greg_doucette/status/1280726102227464194
I await the letter from 50 gazillion Very Important Writers and Thinkers about that.
