I got through to the ICA call centre this morning. They've told me that the ICA Permit service is only for people who are stuck OUTSIDE of the UAE. Their advice? Travel then apply when I'm outside of the country.

I said 'that sounds rather risky, what if it gets rejected when I'm outside?'

'No idea, we can't guarantee it will be approved'

So I suppose my advice here is for those of us looking to travel to home countries (to be clear, I'm not travelling for leisure, I want to see family) this month then just forget it until the permit system changes else you'll just become another voice on #bringbackuaeresidents
