Survey results of >5,000 DO students about #COMLEX Level 2-PE.

So, @COSGP, as a representative body of 31k+ DO students:
1) what is your stance on Level 2-PE in-person testing during covid19, &
2) What are you going to do with this information?

Some thoughts 👇🏽 #MedTwitter https://twitter.com/COSGP/status/1280557400643252225
The problems:
1) Safety concerns
2) Scheduling backlog
3) Those who failed are at huge disadvantage bc unable to re-test in time
4) Bc MDs don't need Step 2-CS, DOs may be at disadvantage bc of possibility to fail or requiring schedule disruption in GME --> unfavorable to PDs
1) Safety --> cancel Level 2-PE for class of 2021.

Risks simply outweigh the marginal benefit the test brings. Def no benefit to pts.

Since 2004, only 1 study (with many flags) came out attempting to show some correlation to doc behavior --> check out https://twitter.com/jbcarmody/status/1276650051687845888?s=20
2) Scheduling backlog --> solution 1 & waive the requirement for licensure or for Level 3 eligiblity.

This is not wild, @TheFSMB & @NBMEnow waived @TheUSMLE Step 2-CS requirement for graduation, licensure, and Step 3 eligibility for MDs & IMGs (& DOs who completed Step1 & 2CK).
3) Students who failed the Level 2-PE this year --> solution 1, 2, & blind ERAS apps for status of the test!

Students who failed the PE this year are unlikely to re-test and have their scores released in a timely manner to demonstrate passing, thx to scheduling backlog
4) Different reqs for MD vs. DO students --> solutions 1, 2, & 3 :)

suspending the Level 2-PE and blinding residency programs to the test status would level the playing field for ALL students - both DO and MD.
Lastly, I'm disheartened to see an empty/generic message that says if we don't feel comfortable taking the test, then we shouldn't.

Yet, status quo creates a two-tiered #meded system when the test is still required for licensure & #Level3 eligibility.

Let's do better, @NBOME.
What do you say, @COSGP and @NationalSOMA, shouldn't we be advocating for these points?

You surveyed students to get input, and now we have it.
