I have some thoughts on Quest that I haven't really seen people talk about cuz I'm worried about the trajectory we're going as it becomes the 5e Replacer

I'm not the best at threads so stick w me. I'm gonna speak from my pov as a POC Indie Dev who wants to do this professionally
I'll quickly preface by saying I think the system itself is pretty great. It's easy to learn, it's got fun abilities, it's got bands of success so rolls aren't stagnant.
I have maybe a few issues, but I'm not critiquing the system here. I'm curious about its sudden influence.
I'm seeing a bunch of streams and podcasts move away from 5e after the recent backlash and that makes me really happy! You shouldn't platform WotC, and also there are better games that deserve the spotlight.

But is Quest that game? Why jump to Quest so quickly?
I could really just say off the bat "Quest was made by white people who already have high positions in progressive media outlets, and I'm uncomfortable that when we could platform indie/marginalized/poc devs, content creators are going for the trendy option."
Even when there are games that would fit their brand of show better because they could play something by a marginalized creator in their community and put action to their words of supporting indie devs!

Quest kinda doesn't need that in a way that a small itch dev would!
That's the imbalance I'm worried about.
It's disheartening to see when we put a lot of vision and ambition into our work to actively fight 5e's culture/problems, a game that has better resources for marketing and is "Instagram-able" is what people are turning to.
Reading through Quest and an interview with its creator I clearly see influences from indie games & our schools of thought, but I don't see anything credited or looped back towards the community of creators it draws from

Quest exists for itself until it's license comes out
And here's where I become a hypocrite, I'll probably make a Quest supplement. The mechanics are interesting enough and if I strike while the iron's hot I can make some quick cash.

Which, idk, bothers me? In a time when we know 5e sucks to POC... why Quest?
I wasn't around when Dungeon World came out, but I know that it was the trendy replacement for D&D. It's still recommended! Made by white guys who, at least one, knew how to market.
Quest has that similar vibe, just prettier and 2020er
Quest Roles instead of DW Playbooks
In the end, I guess I'm saying... WotC & 5e really fucking don't care for POC/Queer people. It's design and culture suck, and Quest is an approachable replacement, which is great to offramp
and it looks great & made a bunch of money on KS & will make a bunch more soon for Round 2
BUT how about supporting the future of indie games and platforming a diverse range of games made by the people who were hurt the most by WotC
Instead of just 1 game made by the white exec editor of The Verge who's game may become another monolith that exists in a vacuum, like 5e
Also, I'm not trying to say "Don't Play Quest" I'd love to play it!

I'm mostly trying to say... be mindful? If you're a content creator looking to move on from 5e look through the itch bundle, look for indie devs who you could platform and then grow this wonderful community
I'm gonna tack this on at the end cause I think I should have explicitly said this in the thread itself: https://twitter.com/vidityavoleti/status/1280718864532283392?s=20
