Am on the train, whose mask policy is clearly and repeatedly (at booking, in an email preceding travel, at the station, on board) articulated. You have to wear a mask. Who would have a problem with that?
Here are some highlights of an anti masker getting kicked off the train:
When asked to put on his mask properly, he verbally attacked the staff member making the request personally. She was unflappably professional, repeated the policy and gave him many chances to comply. Even though he was a braying asshole. Patience of a saint.
In return he was condescending while not actually addressing his non compliance, belittling in a way befitting only the most arrogant/ignorant + asked to speak to her superior. He then refused to accept that she was the superior. Can a guy be a Karen? This guy was v much a Karen.
His default response was to throw a tantrum. It was like watching an overgrown toddler in adult swaddling clothes getting red in the face, except that he didn't have the excuse of being three or a soiled diaper (to my knowledge).
He was being difficult for the sake of it. He bought a ticket knowing the policy, he brought a mask, and still felt empowered to be an asshat. To disrespect someone doing her job. To disrespect his fellow passengers and potentially put them at risk. As so many, unfortunately, do.
@VIA_Rail and @BLVLPolice this thread is a bit of a TL;DR, but one takeaway is that the way you handled a trespasser on a train last night was patient, calm, respectful and professional. Thanks for your effective handling of the situation.
