Saying "it& #39;s not all of us" or "it& #39;s not all white people" or "its not all cops" or "it& #39;s not the whole fandom" isn& #39;t the counterpoint you think it is, we need to stop defending & start listening, nothing is perfect including me but the only way things change is by listening https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="✊" title="Erhobene Faust" aria-label="Emoji: Erhobene Faust">
we all need to take things on board, prioritise the life of black people and how we speak about them, us individually & as a group, whatever group that may be, in real life, on twitter, on tv, on radio, in media, just in general...
Prioritise black people, prioritise having uncomfortable conversations, prioritise that this is more important than your ego or about being in denial, defend black individuals instead of yourself & have conversations with people on what we can all do to be different, we don& #39;t +
need to agree on every point but we all need to be open to honest discussion and open to change and need to move past the petty lines we& #39;ve drawn to actually make a difference, even if you don& #39;t think your directly +
responsible or that your racist, we all have biases and things ingrained in society that we& #39;ve been taught that we need to unlearn and even then we still have things to do, but we only do that by understanding that +
black lives are more important than staying in attack mode. That swallowing down your pride or defensiveness and taking that hit to your preconceived notions is nothing compared to dying bc of your skin colour +
Be more open to taking suggestions, be more open to saying "what can i do?" "i can change" "ok were do we go from here?" "I understand & I& #39;ll try to be better" "i& #39;m sorry" "i don& #39;t agree but I& #39;m willing to listen." +
because ultimately by shutting the conversation down, by being unwilling to budge in those things you thought were set in stone, you ARE a part of the problem, you& #39;re not challenging yourself or those around you +
you& #39;re upholding those old beliefs or things you& #39;ve favourited OVER black lives and the only way we move forward is by pushing past that & GROWING. Stop taking discussions of racism as a direct attack on you personally or even if it is, instead of focusing all that energy on +
explaining why you are -not- use it to ask yourself why the issue has being raised in the first place and dissect it, find the cause of the problem and put a stop to it, be willing to CHANGE. +
Knock a few of those walls down and build them back up where they& #39;re not only protecting you but your fellow black communities too. Racism isn& #39;t just the overt things it& #39;s also the subtle stuff too that you might not even be realising your doing.
Anyways.... that& #39;s me on that for now. I might add to the post later but thought i& #39;d share my piece, and that includes calling out me. I& #39;m not above any of this, we all need to change and we need to challenge ourselves day after day.
