I have just completed an interview with Mr Peter Hayes, principal of the St Brendans Primary School. He has 29 families from the school community, and 39 students currently in the Flemington flats.
Before going further, I should say that I have reason to believe attempts are underway to fix the problems identified in this report as we speak, and I hope to report on that shortly.
Mr Hayes confirms that since the lock down began, he has been in constant touch with "his" families. He has held two Google Meets attended by 70 families in the flats from both St Brendans and Holy Rosary school, Kensington.
He and his staff organised for laptop computers to be delivered to the students. They packed them with some food - he understands and apologises that some of the food might have been culturally inappropriate.
He says that while he understands a massive effort is going on, not all the "wrap around" services promised by the premier are being delivered. IN particular, in the Google Meets, one mother broke down. SHe needs medication and can't get it.
He says: "Communication has been minimal. How she expresses herself to the powers that be is compromised." He also identified four families who urgently needed nappies.
. @VicGovDHHS told him that nappies were available, but clearly something had gone wrong. He and his staff took nappies down for these families, and they were delivered, but....
They then tried to deliver the laptops yesterday. He says: "The police were actually controlling the precinct. We were told to go into the Mount Alexander Road side because that is where deliveries were being made. ANd we went there but they didn't let us in ...
[Continuing quote from Peter Hayes} " .because the only people allowed in were official deliveries with food and the Salvation Army."

The story continues. Tweeting this out now. More to come
