THIS IS REALLY PAINFUL ISN'T IT!
1. Waiting for the grown ups to enter the room.
2. It's been years & the media are still faffing around with gossip & bitch fests when massive events & changes are happening globally. I hadn't followed politics for years until 2 years after the referendum. There was nothing to support - vote for whom you like, get a Blairite.
3. No real difference between the main parties & then boom, it all blew up. Corbyn took Labour further leftwards, the Lib Dems made shrieking noises only audible to cats & dogs and the Tories, finally, after decades of in Party disagreement, answered the EU membership question.
4. But it's bigger than that. Much bigger.
We're broke.
We have been for over a decade.
It went bang in 2008 & we rebooted 'Windows XP' economy, hoping it would somehow be okay for the needs of modern Western democracies.

5. Everyone got pissed off with austerity. It got us nowhere. No Brownie points for being frugal, just a crumbling infrastructure & a dated economy. A lucky few metropolitan areas who got the Get out of Jail Card with investment. Everywhere else stagnated.
6. Somewhere along the line there's been an acknowledgement that it's not working. The West losing its grip on the global economic & political map. We're the guest who turns up at the cocktail party wearing a tank top & Oxford Bags hoping to be contemporary & revered.
7. Our eyes have been carefully averted from the obvious. No mention of the Gilet Jaune protests against environmental taxes. No mention of the French lawyers, doctors & public servants protesting against pension reforms. No mention of Deutsche Bank's difficulties.
8. No mention of the 10,000 German car industry job losses.
Just a pretence that everything is just fine in la la land across the sea, when for 18 months it's been obvious it isn't okay, it's broken. Windows XP economy couldn't update.

9. Absurd policies that don't add up. Make everyone switch to electric vehicles, but if they do we won't have the power stations to generate enough energy to fuel them. Not to mention the hook up points.
10. The 'green thing' which most people would be quite interested in if the proposals actually made the country more beautiful & made lives better. It just seems to involve paying taxes that go off somewhere to some people with the spoils never to be seen again.
11. The more desperate the narrative, the more people tend to jut their chins out & say 'prove it' or 'make me'.
'You'll be dead in a year if you don't mend your ways & appease the weather Gods.'
*sniff* 'You want more money don't you? Sod off.'
'You'll be dead in a year if you don't mend your ways & appease the weather Gods.'
*sniff* 'You want more money don't you? Sod off.'
12. So it seems to me that some whispered conversations took place:
'They're not impressed with the green thing.'
'Try harder.'
'I did but you know what they're like - Brexit showed you what they can be like when rubbed up the wrong way'.

13. 'We could try austerity again?'
'Well you can if you like, but our lot won't wear it'.
'What we gonna do? We're bloody skint & they're getting restless - we're being rumbled you know & this pandemic is making matters worse'.
'It's time.'

14. 'You think so?'
'Yes. We're gonna be swallowed by the emerging, unstable super powers if we don't go for it.'
'So we'll pretend it's all down to the pandemic, throw a few softeners their way to keep em quiet & go for it - spend, spend, spend.'

15. 'You're right, it's sink or swim. But what about the media? They'll never keep quiet about it.'
'They haven't got a clue.'
'I know what you mean, they're not exactly inquisitive are they!'.
'They haven't got a clue.'
'I know what you mean, they're not exactly inquisitive are they!'.
16. I know the above fake conversation is a bit daft, but I think it's the general consensus in the West. We're sliding down the global pecking order & it's time to have a massive reinvestment in order to revolutionise & modernise the entire economy. Restore & realign power.
17. I believe they've finally admitted defeat on the old economic system & the pain we're going through now is the new system emerging. The left are trying to push Marxism via the backdoor using BLM/climate, but it's not going to wash - there's no appetite for it in a democracy.
18. I just wish we had those inquisitive political journalists to talk us through what's happening instead of the present bunch of parrots fixating on trite gotchas.
