if you're reading this in real time & wanna know what Harper's letter is really about, I encourage you to check out @/jennyboylan mentions. she signed it, so I was following to see whether she would comment or not...
...before she did so, her mentions were the occasional (every 10-15 minute or so) trans person asking why she signed it. some were admittedly angry.

about an hour ago, she tweeted an apology, saying she didn't know who else was signing it: https://twitter.com/JennyBoylan/status/1280646004136697863
...if you check her mentions now, they are *filled* with people (mostly seemingly cis men) berating her for "backpedaling" & being a "coward"/"chicken"/"Borg" (yes, the entire left are Borg, apparently). and THIS DYNAMIC IS THE WHOLE FUCKING INTERNET...
...for every one sincerely angry or truly obnoxious trans person who shows up in your mentions to complain about you transgender article/statement/manifesto, there are *hundreds* of disgruntled cis people piling on a trans person somewhere...
...for every time some member of a marginalized group complains about how something you wrote demeaned, stereotyped, or hurt them (yes, words can hurt), they have probably dealt with *hundreds* of dominant/majority ppl saying/doing similar things to them before...
...can we please maintain a sense of perspective here? if you belong to a dominant/majority group & some marginalized/minority is complaining about you 1) check your own shit, 2) keep in mind that THEIR ANGER IS THE RESULT OF YOUR GROUP SHITTING ON THEM. BE ANGRY AT *YOUR* GROUP!
& there it is: Jesse Singal publicly shamed @/jennyboylan for apologizing for signing the letter, which resulted in his followers piling-on her account (see above thread), which was supposedly the very thing the #harpersletter was intended to condemn. bravo everyone, well played!
...I've received multiple responses/complaints asking about my views about the #harpersletter more generally. I've already penned two threads about it today (w/links to more detailed writings), you can access them both here: https://twitter.com/JuliaSerano/status/1280507294548144128
...and now Jesse Singal is going after @emilyvdw for her engaging in open debate about the #harpersletter. it's almost as if he doesn't really like "open debate". or trans women. or more specifically, trans women who engage in open debate... https://twitter.com/emilyvdw/status/1280691694216687616
um, relatedly... https://twitter.com/transscribe/status/1280680262586810370
in the meantime, the Jesse-Singal-provoked hate parade in @/jennyboylan's mentions continues, here are some screen shots. it's entirely filled with ppl berating & demeaning her for apologizing. it's disgusting. is this what you meant by "open debate" @Harpers? #harpersletter
...hey, look, now far-right accounts (e.g., @/pris0nplanet) are tweeting shit about @/jennyboylan for apologizing about the #harpersletter. gee whiz, how could have Jesse Singal even predicted that?
...so weird that there is no "leftist mob" in @/jennyboylan's mentions. just a far-right mob. perhaps this isn't a "both sides" issue after all? maybe the "open debate" trope is just a ruse to promote conservative & outright bigoted speech? just spitballing here...
