It’s not just an awards show. It’s a way to prop up certain skaters backed by big feds while erasing other athletes entirely. The creator of the awards show admitted this himself.
If you’re questioning the significance of this awards show, just remember how impactful propaganda can be when it comes to the judging at events. Skaters who don’t have the support of the right people are never given the credit they deserve. You, as a fan, can make a difference.
Boycotting isn’t only for Yuzuru and Alina fans. It’s also for Donovan, who couldn’t get the minimum TES to qualify for Worlds because the judges underscored him. It’s for Sui and Han, who have been remarkably successful yet weren’t nominated for a single award.
It’s for Boyang, whose achievements STILL haven’t been recognized and are falsely listed under another skater’s bio. It’s for Rika, who, despite her beautiful 3A and her strong program components, isn’t able to win a major competition where the Russians are present.
It isn’t just one or two skaters being affected by the poor governing body of their sport. It’s everyone. You decide whether or not you want to boycott the awards, but, if you want to see a change in this sport, you have to do it yourself. The I*U won’t make it easy.
