Today I spoke to a collection of EDI deans and educators on behalf of @bmsacanada about issues facing Black medical trainees. It was a very productive meeting and I'm genuinely hopeful to see systemic change in #MedEd.

I then cried to my parents for 1.5 hours on Skype 1/5
I've spent the past few weeks in meeting after meeting, collaborating with students and faculty on how to dismantle anti-Black racism in medical education. This is meaningful and necessary. It is a privilege to represent my Black brothers and sisters.

But I'm so so tired 2/5
I'm very lucky to have parents and friends who I can talk to when it gets to be too much, when my emotions don't even fully make sense to me. Still, the minority tax is a steep price to pay 3/5
It is critical to keep Black students in the conversation when you strive to make institutional change. We will not keep quiet and our voices need to be heard.

However, do not place the burden on us to educate our peers and our faculty. We are still learners ourselves 4/5
So to all the educators doing this work- listen to your Black students. Be cognizant of what we're going through. Don't exploit our emotional labour 5/5
