Over @TheDemocrats, we’ve been working to bring transparency and accountability to social media platforms. This includes documenting policy violations. 1/ When FB told us "there were no authoritative sources that could disprove allegations of widespread ballot theft from mailboxes" we responded within minutes with 3 fact checked sources. Spoiler: they still failed to act on @realdonaldtrump tweets spreading this disinfo.
2/ Another time FB told us -- in writing -- that “News Feed is not designed to deliver news.” Keep in mind that according to Pew, 52% of Americans turn to Facebook for their news. https://www.journalism.org/2019/10/02/americans-are-wary-of-the-role-social-media-sites-play-in-delivering-the-news/
3/ When we confronted Facebook about a bot network spreading propaganda in blatant violation of the spirit of the coordination inauthentic behavior policy, they suggested we talk to our digital team about creating our *own* network. Anecdotes aside: Facebook has made too little progress since 2016 on fighting disinformation, reigning in clickbait and sensationalist content, and fighting hate speech. This isn't about partisanship, it is about political discourse in a civil society.
