“HiFlex” is our take on “HyFlex” — a stance that leads with flexible pedagogy instead of emphasising hybrid modality. These models are meant to demonstrate how to approach this kind of course design REALISTICALLY. (i.e. NOT designing 3 diff versions of every course!)
It’s unrealistic (in inhumane!) to expect that kind of “flexibility” from faculty. Instead we encourage you to DESIGN ONCE for online and then use f2f for expanded, augmented, human-focussed opportunities for learning & teaching.
My thinking about these models is grounded in my experience as an online instructor. I believe wholeheartedly real, transformative, humanist learning can happen online, so aim for that! But also, imagine every opp for f2f as a gift; imagine what might be possible in those times.
