Govt announcing £2bn pot to pay wages of young workers for 6 months on minimum wage for 25hrs a week. Right thing to do - young workers hugely hardest hit so far: three-in-ten 18-24 year olds furloughed, and one-in-ten have already having lost their jobs https://twitter.com/skynews/status/1280607668978188288
£2 billion could potentially mean jobs for around 350,000 young people. This policy is an exact replica of Future Jobs Fund from the financial crisis - it worked then and it’a good news the Chancellor is learning from history
It’s crucial these jobs are created quickly - lesson from last time is that local authorities are central to job creation on this scale, but no mention of them in the press release. 350k = 3x as many jobs as Future Jobs Fund, so delivery on this scale will be a huge challenge.
