Free speech doesn’t mean being allowed to say whatever you want w no consequences & it’s really exhausting that so many people who should know better...apparently don’t. If your speech is bigoted/harmful, there *should* be consequences, like people deciding not to listen anymore.
If I go into a room and scream obscenities and slurs at someone, that isn’t okay. I’ll be, at minimum, made to leave the room. Using fancier, nicer-sounding words & acting like it’s all a grand debate because you’re not at risk doesn’t change the true core nature of your message.
So when the other people in the room recognize that and tell you to leave, those are the natural consequences of your actions.
(This thread brought to you by a bunch of writers who apparently do not understand that just because you choose to say something doesn’t mean everyone else is compelled to listen complacently.)
Also lmfao “writing pieces that harm marginalized people is Fine Actually but people criticizing us and writing reviews that negatively impact our sales/careers and lose us support is Wrong and Oppression!”
