I always appreciate it when people like @TaslimTharani tweet from conferences etc, so I am going to try and do the same from @mrdayboy and Patti Robinson webinar on FACT depression. In between bathtime for my kids so this will be completely inadequate...
7% of US population has had at least one episode of major depression. 11% for 18-25s. 11% in individuals belonging to two or more races. 23% for healthcare workers during pandemic.
Young people especially likely to be put on pills. These further dull emotions which are 'so important in working out what needs to change in order to live more vitally'.

SSRIs still very popular. Why? 'Because they are quick and they feel caring'.
People like a system where they can get help when they need it. Can we create a system which is more accessible so people get help when they need help? Could much shorter sessions help achieve that?

GREEN EGGS AND HAM INTERLUDE.
Focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy....

Clients are on autopilot, slogging through life.

You can explain all of this functionally. We don’t have to rely on explaining these as symptoms of an underlying disorder. These are all behaviours around emotional avoidance.
With FACT there is no need to slog round the hexaflex. Think of flexibility as an ability to roll with feelings when they show up, focus on values rather than need to avoid. It’s a theme of the conversation rather than a highly prescribed intervention. YES KIRK. YES PATTI.
Tapping into values as a huge latent source of ENERGY.

Every session ends with this question – what are you willing to try differently that would really matter to you?

It’s only by trying *different* behaviours that we can find more workable behaviours.
of course, doing new behaviours may put you at risk…because behaviours you’ve been engaging in have been designed to stop you experiencing uncomfortable behaviours (see 4-square tools).

But the way that all organisms learn / adapt is by varying what they’re doing.
'I want them to be willing to try and different strategy in a situation where they have been trying the same strategy over and over'.

We are always promoting behavioural variability.

That's it. I love FACT. My own data supports its effectiveness in workplaces. Over and out!
