THIS ISN’T A GAME... This might turn into a thread and I will apologise now if it does. I really get that people want to travel on public transport for whatever reason they are travelling. I’m not here to stop any of that. It’s my job @LNER to make sure you get from your origin
to your destination as safely as possible. That’s what I am trained and continually assessed on. It’s also what I train other people on. It’s my job. Part of my job is to make sure that customers get the right experience when travelling on board our trains.
I fully understand that there are people that are exempt from wearing masks / coverings for whatever reason it might be. That’s perfectly fine and I have zero issue with that. It’s all in how you ask. So when I ask you the question...
‘Is there any reason why you aren’t wearing a face mask?’ and you tell me ‘I am exempt from wearing one’ that’s literally it. It’s not my job to enforce it. It’s my job to make sure people feel comfortable. If you have your facemask round your neck or on the table,
I am politely going to ask you to put it on. It’s not a game. You can’t just wear it for the thirty seconds that I am looking at you. You are required to wear a face mask or covering AT ALL TIMES when travelling on ALL public transport - barring eating and drinking
This is enforceable by the police. Who can issue fines to people for non compliance. So please, I beg you. If you are able, wear your facemask. It’s everyone’s journey. Not just yours. It’s the only way rail gets back to some ‘normal’ by keeping infection levels and cases low.
On tonight’s train, I have had to ask over 35% of the people travelling if there was a reason they weren’t a face covering. The best was ‘I am only going to the next stop’. #WearAFaceCoveringOrMask
