To recruits: If a D3 has been pursuing you since the spring/summer, it's because they want you, have known they want you & you fit with them.

If a D2 comes out of nowhere late & offers you a scholarship late, it's because you were a backup option & they are now desperate. 1/3
If they really wanted you (like they will undoubtedly tell you once they come in with that late offer) they would have offered you before.

Look, if that D2 is the right fit for you, go for it. But there is this false narrative that an athletic scholarship is everything. 2/3
But it's not. In fact, I know a ton of D3 athletes who are paying less than D2 athletes & are playing in leagues that are just as competitive, if not more.

That's a long way of saying this: go where you fit & where you're actually wanted & valued, not where you're a last resort.
Just to clarify:

1) I’m speaking generally. Of course there are situations where a D2 comes in late & this doesn’t apply

2) This about partial athletic scholarships, not full rides

3) This is about D3s that you also feel is a good fit, but then take an offer just cause it’s D2
