We've started getting tagged in people/shows you should follow/check out lists again and while we are deeply thankful to those who enjoy our show and our mission and want others to know about us, we need to talk about how to properly spotlight something or someone you love.

To start: lists aren't helpful.
Very few people see a wall of @'s and take the time to look at each page and see if they should check them out. The more people who are tagged, the worse it gets.
This is a prime example of quality over quantity. I'll get back to that. 2/12

In addition to no one actually reading the list, you are absolutely destroying someone's twitter notifications. In 10 minutes we had 25 notifications and I thought something ~big~ happened.
Please don't scare people like that! 3/12

This is because you've tagged 20 people in a list so now in addition to everyone who is liking the tweet, we are also getting a bunch of notifications from shows responding saying 'thanks for the shout out!' or some variation.
I mute these conversations to limit this. 4/12

Ideally, people would untag you in replies but Twitter as a whole still hasn't gotten that worked into it's muscle memory so here we are muting threads that could really help boost shows or network in the community!
Okay back to quality over quantity. 5/12

When you spend all 280 characters just cramming a tweet with @'s, all you're doing is throwing names into the wind!
Someone who is reading these tweets who is seriously looking for people to follow would benefit from substance. 6/12

Pick 1-3 shows.
Explain WHY someone should follow them, give them your perspective on what you like about them!
If someone came to me and said "You should watch Studio Ghibli films, here's a list of every single one." I wouldn't know where to start! 7/12

However, if someone came to me and said "You should watch Studio Ghibli films! Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and Howl's Moving Castle are the three most popular for these reasons-"
I'd be more inclined to take that information and go check out those films! 8/12

So! Here's a sample:
Hey! You should totally check out @PrismPals, they're an entirely LGBTQ+ cast who play Quest and they're for all ages!
They most recently celebrated Pride with a week long event, my favorite episode was when they introduced their new character, Zubaan! 9/12

Another Sample:
If you're looking for other all ages shows might I suggest @/FateFMCast or @/TheTitanPod?!
Fate is an all women group that really love tacos and Titans is basically a fantasy mech anime! 10/12

This way you're being thoughtful and concise, which is (ideally) what Twitter is built for!
Now, I know it's only Tuesday, but if you've gotten this far in the thread I want you to reply with 1-3 shows (tag them directly or break it with / your choice) and highlight them! 11/12

Make sure when responding to untag people, and if you see someone tag a show that you also enjoy feel free to chime in on top of theirs instead of just tagging the same show in the same thread multiple times!
Let's do this!
