Just got back from the grocery story, I hadn't been in two weeks. I was travelling through the south, NC and GA and it's shocking to see the difference between how #COVID19 is handled there v.s. DC/Maryland
I spent time in GA and Gov Kemp is essentially condemning Atlanta and the state to death and financial ruin over the next couple of years. Everything is open, bars, gyms, restaurants, yet he's shocked when there are more and more #COVID19 spikes
I had to ask my hotel concierge in Atlanta (who wasn't wearing a mask) to please put me in a room that had been thoroughly cleaned and hadn't had another guest in the last 24 hours. The idea that I was concerned about #COVID19 seemed to catch her by surprise
Across from my hotel in GA people were crowded into bars, playing cornhole outside and generally acting like there wasn't a #pandemic that's killed over 120,000 Americans in four months. The lack of concern comes from a governor who encourages people to ignore science
I went for Chinese pick up and there was an pair of white senior citizens leaving the restaurant. The woman, (who walked w/ a cane) came up to the cashier and said "These cloth napkins are beautiful. I could make a mask from these!" Mind you, she wasn't wearing a mask
To see an older woman, with her husband who thought getting some fried rice in a small restaurant with limited ventilation was worth the risk of catching #COVID19 while joking about making a mask for herself actually just made me sad
The Spanish flu killed over 650,000 Americans in 2 years, if attitudes and policies like I say in NC and GA continue, we'll easily beat those numbers with #COVID by next Summer
I have PLENTY of issues with @GovLarryHogan (ex: How he's stood in the way of the HBCU settlement in MD) But I have never been happier to live in a blue state with a GOP governor because he's done a MUCH better job handling #COVID19 than what I saw in NC and GA
