This generation is really an unlucky bunch.
The internet gives with one hand and takes with the other, we focus on what the internet is giving without realising how much more it is taking. A lot of people get lost in this social media world that they forget what is real.

Back in the days, our parents had a soft landing whenever they made a mistake. Everyone was once a foolish youth, the difference between now and then is, they may be foolish and do something stupid, but what happened was that, once they quit their stupidity, they could clean
up their acts and become better people who contribute positively to the society. There were no records, no recorded memory of those spontaneous acts of stupidity. Your grandma could kiss on a stranger at a party while drunk. But once she leaves the party, that's that.
These days you do that, it will most likely be recorded and say your grandma now decides to run for political office, someone is going to dig that video you never thought existed up. They could do silly things and once they leave the scene, that's probably it.
Nowadays everything you do is being recorded as evidence, for good or bad. Every raunchy picture you post, every stupid thing you say in mindless moments, every detail of your life you make publicly available. They are there forever, as evidence for or against you, mostly
against you.
The fact that the social media era has also coincided with a cultural Marxism movement doesn't help at all because now everyone is told to identify with a group, if you prefer being an individual too bad, because you'll have no friends and a lot of enemies.

These enemies will dig up your past even the ones you have forgotten and they'll provide recorded evidence of it whenever they choose to put you on a stand for going against their groupthink. Now it's your own words against you.
They are going to frame up all those moments of momentary stupidity in a way that erases whoever you are right now, to present you as that person who posted that thing, who said that thing, who did that thing. Your old self will become who you are and who you know you are gets
relegated to the status of who you're pretending to be.
The past generations didn't have the same problems in the same proportions.

The past generations didn't have the same problems in the same proportions.
So now, we are told to constantly walk eggshells around life because what you said and did will be used against you even if you're a totally
different person now. People stopped believing people can change. They don't even care if you're changed. If you dare cross them or so as much have an opinion they do not like, they are going to bring up your past when you least expect it.
This is reality. A reality where you cannot afford mistakes. Your mistakes become you.
Some of us get carried away by the freedom internet provides, we see social media has what is real, forgetting that social media has its own standards and they may or may not
Some of us get carried away by the freedom internet provides, we see social media has what is real, forgetting that social media has its own standards and they may or may not
represent the acceptable standards in real life. But because we can't tell the difference, you do stuff that go against real life but suit the projections that people are trying to portray on social media.
You forget to ask yourself, if this got out will I be proud of myself?

The internet is a fantastic tool, it has made our lives easier, it has made us boundary-less, limitless. The amount of information we have access to will blow the minds of the Aristotles and Platos. A child born now will have access to more information than the greatest
philosophers and thinkers immediately they are born.
But in the proportion, your errs are just as available to the entire world, not just you and your clan. Gone are the days, you could leave your town, go to another and become a new person. Nowadays, your past follows you.

Be careful what you do today.
You're part of an unlucky generation that's unable to outgrow its mistakes.
People expect you to have been perfect all your life.
No past sins forgiven, no past mistakes forgotten.
Be careful, if you can.
May the odds be in your favour.

*had to cut the thread short. The internet has also ensured we all have low attention spans. A 700 word essay is not considered too long.
