basically, HDM is a book/show series that takes place in an alternate universe where everything is kind of more steampunky n stuff. main difference is that in that universe, instead of your soul being inside you, it is outside your body in a form of animal.

depending on what you do for a living, and what kind of person you are, your soul (daemon as they call it) is different. ex; servants would have a dog, hunters would have a wolf or cyote, etc.
as a child, your daemon can change animals, but once you become an adult

your daemon settles as a certain animal.
other things i might wanna mention is that in that universe there’s yknow portals to this universe in it n stuff yeah.
also there’s sentient polar bears that kill eachother a lot
