Six months ago, race relations in Britain were close to a model for the world. Current debates are absolutely poisonous. We need to get back to where we were, & quickly. Ditch the self-hatred, pdq. Ditch the insisting how wicked everything about Britain is. Let's just get along.

The notion that no-one tries to do anything about racism in Britain because we think black lives don't matter is a lie. An appalling, offensive, poisonous lie. And people should be prepared to call it the lie that it is. Racism exists, but we *do* do things about it.

Britain is one of the least racist countries on earth. That doesn't mean we're perfect. But it does mean that if you change things here radically you're likely to make us more like other, more racist countries. Incremental improvement is what we need, not ditching what works well
