In addition to what is written here let me add a little crucial information about this nonsense response of this MP (they aren't alone several MP's have made the same response btw). UC application requires a joint claim (thread 1) https://twitter.com/StaceyGreen06/status/1280216704811855873
If your partner is seriously unwell (e.g. has the virus) or for any other reason can't/won't apply alongside you (and let's face it this would be the position of those in domestically abusive situations) then you don't get past the first (thread 2)
Hurdle of a UC application let alone sped up access at a higher rate. So let's have no more of this false information giving @Jamie4North @AnnelieseDodds @Ed_Miliband please ensure this vital point is raised today at the meeting (thread 3)
Finally, let me just make clear that it's not OK, morally or otherwise, for MP's to write cold worded letters (I've seen several) to constituents who are expressing serious emotional distress. A direction to the Samaritans is not a substitute (thread 4)
For appropriate representation or appropriate sign posting. It's not ok to do the bare minimum to cover your butt just in case the worst comes to the worst for that person, shame on you if you've done that (I've seen too many of those letters) (thread 5)
Any MP who would like to pick up this crucial point (how to speak/write appropriately to constituents in this situation/level of distress) please feel free to pick up from where this thread leaves off (I'd be happy to assist in that task) (end of thread)
