Too many people don’t understand why saying all lives matter rings empty for us.
There needs to be a reckoning with our past to get to a post racial America where we don’t need to say Black lives matter.
We have tried to bypass this crucial step and now the proverbial chickens have come home to roost.
I’m only 30 minutes into this talk and it’s crystal clear why we find ourselves at this inflection point.
Important points from Jeffery Robinson’s speech
-The South lost the war but won the peace.
-The Confederate flag and monuments honor slavery and white supremacy the don’t honor Black Americans.
I can’t stop thinking about this video.
Mr Robinson ties so many historical events to the driving forces behind slavery and white supremacy which help today’s events somewhat make sense.
Did you know reparations were paid to Japanese Americans & their heirs who were in internment during the war?
That slavery, terrorism, segregation, & systematic oppression Black Americans faced is discounted to the point that reparations are so controversial is a gut punch to me.
After the Montgomery bus boycott a victory letter went out to Black bus riders.
It advised them to keep quiet, don’t draw attention to avoid a possible law enforcement encounter.
Even though we had the legal right to take any seat it was understood that we could be killed by...
police or in jail before we made it to the courthouse.
Of course, nothing has changed.
We still face the risk of state sanctioned extrajudicial killings by law enforcement.
