I am not live tweeting the #AuroraCityCouncilMeeting but I will share my thoughts here.
They are currently on the public invited to be heard.
A Minneapolis resident wrote concern about APD - feeling the #solidarity. So far, 4 letters calling for #JusticeForElijahMcClain
This letter is the first anti protest letter — they claim that our City Councilmembers have “cushy government jobs” 😆😆😆

Free history lesson: Aurora City Council is part time. They get paid $13,000 a year. It’s historically been a position held by rich, retired white folks.
@Murillo4Aurora was historic 2017 - a 23 year old Latino unseated a racist retiree. 2019, we continued our momentum and elected @Marcano4Aurora & @AlisonCoombs2 . Activists did it. We did it to give our City back to the people - so our government would be made up by our own.
Three letters in support for APD. I’d love to get the demographic info for these letters.
I’m guessing they’ve never been black in America. Also... how could Elijah have been more respectful? He called APD beautiful while they were killing him. #JusticeForElijahMcClain
These letters stink of Fraternal Order of the Police... copaganda is a sick drug. Apparently it impacts critical thinking.

This letter wants a ban on protests and riots. I wonder how she feels about our Constitution?
That person has no credibility. Says that #ElijahMcClain would be alive if he was obeying the law (news flash: he did nothing illegal). This type of falsehood & rhetoric is encouraged by conservatives, FOP and APD. #Shame
Next letter is about how we communicate with community.
Many letters about @CoombsForAurora — little do they know the APD can only disperse a gathering if its “reasonable.” Not only could we not hear the disbursement order, we had a right to be there at the #violinvigil

These law & order folks can be disappointed — but I’m proud
A lot of police officer wife’s writing in - pointing to the theater shooting as how good APD is. Funny how they are thrilled they arrested a white guilty shooter — but fail to recognize that same APD killed an innocent black man.

Next speaker is supporting a #maskmandate
Oh boy... All Lives Matter Becky is thanking the most conservative members. That says a lot.
I don’t know who needs to hear this — but unqualified support for police is NOT a requirement for public office.
Also, @CoombsForAurora in the video - she literally asks APD “what are these people doing wrong” at the #violinvigil — which APD did not answer.
No one is asking for harm to or death to APD Officers or their families. I’ve been on the streets in these protests and know the organizers — that’s not us.

These arguments are in bad faith.
Listen... 3 Officers killed #ElijahMcClain ... but then 150 Officers marched on the #ViolinVigil

These people would rather us live in a Police State than be a little uncomfortable for awhile.

SMDH.
As much as I think it’s important everyone stay engaged in City Politics — copaganda is harmful & gaslighting to our community.

If you need to turn it off, turn it off.

Just make sure you stay engaged & support our local Electeds that are supporting #JusticeForElijahMcClain
Another argument made in bad faith.

No one is saying ALL police are bad.

We are saying three (now two) APD members are murders. 150 Officers are complicit in excessive force. And the system is racist, unjust, and broken.
Sure. Let’s take a look at the #ViolinVigil.

150 police marched and attacked on peaceful protestors at the #ViolinVigil

Councilwoman Coombs asks “what are these people doing wrong?”

Apparently this is a problem... ?
Oh... this is classic... let’s throw in issues with the brown bearded Councilman, @Marcano4Aurora , even if there is no evidence of wrong doing on body cam footage.

Soooo racist. I wonder if they hear it...
Authoritarianism is the theme of tonight’s #AuroraCityCouncil meeting.

Scary.
One of the things that strikes me... these people clearly do not know @CoombsForAurora

She is the kindest, most empathetic human I know.

If they’d turn off conservative radio, Fox News, or stop listening to Gruber, they’d know this.
Less than 10% of the calls are violent in Aurora. Less than 10%.
We do not want APD handling the mentally unstable. We want to have vibrant mental health services and crisis response teams to help our citizens.

I wish these people who are writing actually listened as much as they are talking.
We got out organized. City Council is now two hours in and the last 90 minutes have all been copaganda & propolice statements.

Our elected officials can’t move forward with any reform or defunding APD without our pressure & our comments. Protesting isn’t enough on its own.
This is now the second letter stating that #ElijahMcClain deserved what he got.

These are the terrible humans we are dealing with... who are filling the email box of the city.

This meeting is just... ugh... sad.
If these people cared as much about police brutality and systematic injustice as they do about @CoombsForAurora social media post... we could change the world.

But alas, they would rather promote their law and order copaganda.
I am not sure how long I can listen to this.

People who never actually listen. Who haven’t participated in the protests or talked to the protestors. Victim blaming. Microaggressions. Blatant racism.

The right sure came out in full force.
Finally! A letter with a little empathy calling for #JusticeForElijahMcClain
Letters are beginning to shift... I hope this is a permanent change in the tone.
This letter is interesting — points out that the majority of police are white and that they live outside of Aurora.

Lists reforms to revert the force to community policing and accountability measures.

This is beautiful.
I would ask you all to donate to @CoombsForAurora every time someone is “appalled” and mentions her... but we’d all go broke.

People are very angry that she has used her privilege to fight for #JusticeForElijahMcClain and is willing to stand with our community.
We are two hours into public comment. The tide did not shift. The letters from the public are still angry and hateful.
Okay... I’m headed to bed. 🌙 I will listen to the recording and catch the news tomorrow.

I hope @karanormal and @QuincySnowdon have flex time and plenty of coffee so they can stay up for this marathon meeting. âœŒđŸŒ

Good night ya’ll. The struggle continues tomorrow...
