The women I know are the coolest. I was raised on stereotypes of women being “too girly”, only interested in makeup, hair and gossip and when I was younger I thought less of more “traditional” girls because I wasn’t into that stuff. It took me years to realize that this was (1/)
a stereotype put forward to make less of women and to diminish their power. Now that I’m 20 I’ve realized the sheer power we have. In my relatively small circle I know women who are studying to be doctors, chemists, artists, actors, sociologists, psychologists, journalists (2/)
and they’re as ambitious as it gets. Even during a pandemic I talk to my girl friends and they’re applying for jobs or creating their own opportunities, taking a class in their free time or simply leading and caring for their families at such a young age. We are amazing. (3/)
We undermine ourselves so often and sometimes we even base our self worth on some guy who showers once a week and we forget how incredible we are. I’m not blaming anyone who does that, we’ve been conditioned for hundreds of years that we’re as valuable as what we contribute (4/)
to a man’s life, but that has to change. Nothing gives me more hope than working with girls, and seeing communities of girls building themselves up and helping eachother reach next-level greatness. When men support, that’s great too. But we’re more than enough. (5/5)
Also wanna accompany this thread with this song Armor by Sara Bareilles. It’s a very feminist revolution song and it’s one of my favorites. https://open.spotify.com/track/4kO1W2nNKj6C9h5vm31sdX?si=L_Tz-dFPR5CzkEz-V8jMqw
“To all the dirty looks, the kitty cat calls
To the ones who try and throw us up against the back walls
Let me tell you something you'll understand
Only the little boys tell you they're a big man”
“To all my sisters and all our friends
We have to thank them, please
Strength means blessed with an enemy..
You think I am high and mighty, mister?
Wait 'til you meet my little sister”
