Two years ago Amazon and the right-wing corporate infrastructure in Seattle led a successful effort to repeal the "head tax." Many in the media and even in politics thought this was a sign of some conservative turn in Seattle they'd long been hoping to see.

It wasn't.
Seattle is a flawed, troubled, unequal, inequitable city. But our residents are by and large deeply progressive. They want to take on the power structure, #TaxtheRich and make this city a better place.
So we organized and fought back. We took on Amazon and their millions in 2019 and defeated them (almost - we'll avenge D4). And we proved elections have consequences by today passing a new, larger tax on Amazon and other big corporations.
Even a year ago the establishment didn't think it was possible for the City Council to pass a tax on big business. But here we are. It passed 7-2, a veto-proof majority.

Inspiration for the other fights ahead, including #DefundSPD.
Glad we have bold leaders like @cmkshama @CMTammyMorales @CMTMosqueda who have never wavered in the fight for the people of this city against corporate power. Thank you.
