1. I got pulled over by police, it was my fault. I picked up phone to enter address and cop saw me with phone in hand while driving. I was was driving alone, and had to pull into an empty parking lot. Atlanta police are horrible and so to say I was concerned is understatement.
2. As officer began approaching my car, I took off my mask & put my hands palm down and spread open on the dashboard. I have PTS connected to police abuse & so my hands began shaking like crazy. Fearing that would be interpreted as “suspicious” I began having a panic attack.
3. The officer gets to my window and sees my hands shaking. With tears coming down, I began to explain to the officer that I wasn’t a threat, but my voice was breaking and I could barely speak. I was terrified. Thankfully, officer was black, and he understood what was happening.
4. The officer immediately began speaking in a soft voice and reassuring me that I was okay, that I was safe, and he wasn’t going to hurt me. He explained why he pulled me over & reassured me that he just wanted to make sure I got home safely, and that everything was okay.
5. He did give me a ticket, and it took me a few minutes to sign it as my hands were shaking so badly. So thankful I got an officer that understood what was happening, didn’t misinterpret it, and that I was able to get home to my family. I survived a police encounter. #Thankful
