ICE just released a new legislation regarding F-1 and M-1 visas. here’s a quick breakdown of how this affects international students.
(2/7)

a) non immigrant F-1 and M-1 visa-holding students whose schools are going online-only must either LEAVE THE COUNTRY or TRANSFER to an institution offering in-person classes.
b) no new F-1 or M-1 visas will be issued to students enrolled in online-only institutions.
(3/7)

c) international students enrolled in “hybrid” institutions (those offering both online and in-person) must remain in their institutions unless the school closes or goes fully online. if that happens, these students must leave the country or take a leave of absence.
(4/7)

1: international students can and will be stopped at airports/during travel.
2: international students face deportation proceedings if they refuse to leave.
(5/7)

3: eligible F-1 and M-1 visa students whose schools are operating in person can only enroll in one online class.
(6/7)

4: for schools operating as “hybrids”, they must verify that their intl’ students are taking BOTH in person and online classes. this means that regardless of health concerns or restrictions, intl’ students MUST attend in-person classes in order to avoid deportation.
(7/7)

5: if an intl’ student’s institution decides to go fully online or shut down, these students have 10 days to either transfer to a different institution offering in-person classes, leave the country, or face the risk of deportation.
