Can we talk about the dissonance in the terms used in this hellscape called planning? Let& #39;s start a thread:
placemaking - how you gonna make a place that was already there???
landlord - you really want someone, another person, lording over you, another person? We are okay with deifying people who have enough $$ to buy land and the ppl who live on it? How is this okay? How is it ethical?
built environment - similar sentiments with placemaking. there are ways to live in harmony in the environment instead of scarring it with all of these roads and development
smart city - what& #39;s smart about it? how are data captured and being used? oh, to continue to surveil. not smart to me.
nonprofit - now we *know* https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="đź‘€" title="Augen" aria-label="Emoji: Augen"> not gonna get involved if there& #39;s no money or stealing involved. let& #39;s not act benevolent
urban renewal - yall remember learning about fault lines in earth and atmospheric sciences?

basically, this term reminds me of convergent subduction. one earth, eating the other
community engagement - a few dissonances here:

community is a verb not a noun.
community is not monolithic.
engagement moreso means exploit.
community engagement (cont& #39;d) -

yall went to planning/graduate school to "know" how to do your job, yet ask (exploit) community members to help (not listen to them)

community members don& #39;t "meet" job requirements for job (that they& #39;d do better) bc they didn& #39;t go to
(urban) planning school - so much here. much was talked about in #unurbanist.

interesting that there aren& #39;t many "urban" people teaching and learning at these schools.
(urban) planning school - I have my theories about what education should look like here, but that& #39;s for another thread

Just thankful I found ways to validate my learning, growth, and knowledge outside of spending over $100k
landscape architecture - this isn& #39;t my area of expertise, but it gives me "built environment" vibes. I just ask, why the need to structure or "tame" the outdoors?
pi*neer - when white celebrity planners say something many the hip-hop artist, community organizer, resident has said....can we not call them this?

Like, pi*neer, tr*ilbl*zing, isn& #39;t innovate but foul. It& #39;s just a colonizer in khaki?
vision zero - if it doesn& #39;t include all violence on the street, like police violence, homelessness, etc. I don& #39;t want to talk and this means absolutely nothing.
place-based/ placemaking cont& #39;d -

when we make place, it doesn& #39;t fall within "code"

yall realize that when Black people do this it& #39;s called loitering / soliciting right?
urban / urbanist / urbanism - @ColonizedLocal said it best https://twitter.com/ColonizedLocal/status/1265433161799999489?s=20">https://twitter.com/Colonized...
Anyways, that& #39;s all I have for now. Thanks for following along.

What are other terms related to planning that don& #39;t add up for you?
