In my first off-campus apt, my roommate and I tried to steal cable from our neighbor so we could watch football. He caught us, then took us to Radio Shack to get the right splitters and coaxial cables. Mentor the youth.
This same neighbor had also just gotten out of jail from doing 8 yrs for cocaine trafficking. the landlord of our duplexes hired him as the maintenance man for all the duplexes on the street. Because we had his free cable, he welcomed himself in our crib all the time.
We came home one night from class and Free Cable was sit-in on our couch eating OUR FOOD with a woman whom he only identified as "someone that held me down on the inside". we were 19. what the hell do you say to a grown as 30 yr old sitting on your couch with a 50 yr old woman?
the bigger problem with living in a privately owned duplex is that when the maintenance man brings older women into your crib. There's no one to complain to. The landlord would never fire him because it was too sweet a deal.
We decided to get rid of him, we'd disconnect the cable. You needed good credit to get DirectTV or pay a $300 deposit. I worked doubles at Golden Corral for 3 weeks to get that damn deposit. The problem now was sneaking the DirectTV man into the house w/o him seeing him.
Imagine being a DirectTV installer and two 19 yr olds are telling you to park your truck up the street and come through the back patio door. Dude was scared we were gonna rob him. And I dont blame him. install went smooth.
The SAME WEEK DirectTV had a free trial of NFL Sunday Ticket. In those days only Buffalo Wild Wings had all the games. Us getting DirectTV only made the maintenance man come in the crib even more because we had all the west coast games. fml
Ultimately, my roommate had to start talking about selling cocaine. We started him for advice on how to get in the game and the best way to mask dope from police dogs. This shit scared Free Cable like no body's business. "Naw, Them crackas aint coming for me, you on ya own"
Our maintance man was so scared of going back to jail on drug charges he refused to repair anything in our home for fear of being in the house during a drug bust. 🤣🤣 My point, we should all mentor youth but if ya mentor becomes too much, ask them to help you push a kilo. Fin
