This is my dad. DR. Tom Carter III.
He just earned his Doctorate in Business Administration 😊
30 years ago, my dad was the first person in his family to graduate college.
He had never even heard of the SAT until 10th grade when his girlfriend (my mom) convinced him to take it.
In high school, my dad played a bunch of sports and wanted to join the military. But after taking the SAT a few times he got a score high enough to earn a scholarship to play for @NDFootball.
My granddaddy said, "You don't go to Notre Dame for football." He wanted my dad to get his degree. But, after 3 years my dad was ready to declare for the NFL draft.
"He was thinking about going to the league as a junior. I said, 'I'll give you an ink pen to sign, but you gotta go back and get that piece of paper because I didn't get mine,'" my granddaddy said.
My dad left @NotreDame and declared for the draft. He was the 17th overall pick to the @Redskins in 1994.
My dad made a promise to his parents to get his degree so for two winters he went back to South Bend, Indiana making his coaches mad because he missed OTAs in order to finish his degree. He graduated with his degree in finance two years after he left.
Fast forward a few years.
He played with the @Redskins, @ChicagoBears, and retired with the @Bengals.
He went on to teach special education and coach at @DominionLcps for a few years before eventually landing with the @NFLPA where he currently works as a regional director.
In his time there he worked to get his MBA in 2017 and how his DBA. "Can't be no prouder," said grandaddy who never got his degree. He dropped out of school when my grandma got pregnant. "You always want your next generation to go better. Very proud. Keyword is *very* proud."
I just wanted to share this to say how proud I am of my dad. If you wonder why I am the way I am or why I work the way I do... it's because I am running myself ragged trying to compete with his work ethic â€ïžđŸ˜‚ xoxo
