Back in May I posted a long thread on the Toronto Comic Arts Festival ( #TCAF2020), which I was disappointed to see cancelled because for many years it's been my favourite thing about living in Toronto.
This thread by @cosmonautVico shows it's not the same positive experience for everyone involved. https://twitter.com/cosmonautVico/status/1278062556578557954
@TorontoComics has built its image on the extremely diverse group of comic artists who come to exhibit their work every year. It's disappointing to see that diversity and inclusion is not reflected in the leadership team.

It looks like artistic director/co-founder Chris Butcher recently stepped down (for a variety of reasons - he resigned before these criticisms started circulating). I hope the remaining team will take this opportunity to restructure the organization. https://www.comicsbeat.com/chris-butcher-steps-down-from-tcaf-amid-calls-for-greater-racial-diversity/
I've always loved TCAF, and I want everyone who takes part to have the same positive experience. Opening up leadership roles to BIPOC and LGBTQ+ comic creators and allowing their perspectives to shape the festival is a great step towards making that possible.
