Back in May I posted a long thread on the Toronto Comic Arts Festival ( #TCAF2020), which I was disappointed to see cancelled because for many years it& #39;s been my favourite thing about living in Toronto.
This thread by @cosmonautVico shows it& #39;s not the same positive experience for everyone involved. https://twitter.com/cosmonautVico/status/1278062556578557954">https://twitter.com/cosmonaut...
@TorontoComics has built its image on the extremely diverse group of comic artists who come to exhibit their work every year. It& #39;s disappointing to see that diversity and inclusion is not reflected in the leadership team.

It looks like artistic director/co-founder Chris Butcher recently stepped down (for a variety of reasons - he resigned before these criticisms started circulating). I hope the remaining team will take this opportunity to restructure the organization. https://www.comicsbeat.com/chris-butcher-steps-down-from-tcaf-amid-calls-for-greater-racial-diversity/">https://www.comicsbeat.com/chris-but...
I& #39;ve always loved TCAF, and I want everyone who takes part to have the same positive experience. Opening up leadership roles to BIPOC and LGBTQ+ comic creators and allowing their perspectives to shape the festival is a great step towards making that possible.
