Kishimoto gave Sarada glasses simply for design purposes. So no, it’s not about genes.

Personally, I think glasses look great on her.

Sarada did not wear glasses when she was born.
Sasuke leaving deeply affected Sarada, this caused her to active her sharingan unconsciously (she never got to awake it by her own will until she met Sasuke).This, with the fact that she got sick, damaged her eyes.

*Though this is not confirmed, there’s a huge possibility that Sarada doesn’t need glasses when her sharingan is activated, when it is deactivated she does need them again, so she probably doesn’t like taking them off in battle. (Again, just a theory)

Uchihas aren’t meant to have perfect vision, so Sarada wearing glasses doesn’t instantly makes her weak or less capable.
