I got my start in #botany and owe my #BlackBotanicalLegacy to my great-grandmother, Grace Alice (who learned her love from her grandmother). For all who know me, know she was my everything. She started me on this wonderful journey of #education & #science. #BlackBotanistsWeek
She always said, “Keep your head in those books.”

My first #plant memories are of the African violets (Saintpaulia ionantha) blooming year-round in my home. It was a magical sight to see and those hairy leaves! Now I am growing them!

For my dissertation research I wanted to understand the impacts of #climatechange on #Pelargonium plants located throughout #SouthAfrica. I used #herbarium records, species distribution modeling, and common gardens. #BlackBotanistsWeek #BlackRoots #Botany101 #BlackBotanicalLegacy
I am currently a #postdoc working with @MartineBotany. We are biodiversity scientists working on various projects from rare plant conservation, population genetics/genomics, biogeographic barriers, and species descriptions! #BlackBotanistsWeek
I have always wanted my work to make an impact! We are currently reassessing the #conservation status of a grass species found at the edge of its range in PA using population genomics methods . #Chasmanthium #popgen #BlackBotanistsWeek @Jon_D_Hayes
#BlackBotanistsWeek spotlight: @Olivia_ARIE and I are trying to understand how biogeographic barriers impact gene flow of an endemic Australian legume!! #BlackBotanicalLegacy #BlackRoots
I am also working to describe a NEW #SOLANUM SPECIES!!! More to come soon!! **sorry no spoiler alerts**

These are just some of the projects I am working on!!
