Idk why I feel this on my heart today, but 🤷🏽‍♀️... My best friend’s boyfriend refers to me as “The Mexican Girl” whenever i come up in conversation. Everyone but me finds it funny. When I say I’m not Mexican & my name is Taylor (which he knows already), he says “that’s racist.”
Now obviously I care but not enough to let it anger me. I just feel like speaking about why this bothers me #onhere bc I can. First, I am black. Proud to be. I am not mixed. Both sets of parents, grand parents & great grand parents are black.
I won’t get into the colorism conversation right now bc I’m not trying to make this thread any longer than it already is. IYKYK.
The point is, I am not Mexican or any Latinx. I am a proud black woman & I have a name. Call me by my name or don’t talk to me. I do not want to be referred to by my race or my skin tone or anything else but my damn name.
Don’t say “hey light skin,” “hey Mexican girl,””hey” anything except Taylor or some other approved nickname, if we are on that basis. The fact that I have to explain that is ridiculous, but I get it. Niggas love to play all day, but the line has be drawn somewhere.
