Research Director Kartik Athreya, along with colleagues from @KansasCityFed and @stlouisfed, authored a fourth special report on financial distress and the second wave of #COVID19: https://bit.ly/FinDistress4
Between April 15 and June 24, new cases in first wave states have fallen from 3.4 cases per day per 10,000 people to less than half a case. Over the same time, #secondwave states saw daily infections rise from less than half a case to over 1.5 cases per day per 10,000 people.
This figure shows that new #COVID19 case growth within second wave states has been most rapid in high financial distress counties relative to low financial distress counties. #EconTwitter
Higher financially distressed counties have experienced rates of #coronavirus infection nearly twice as high as their lower financial distressed counterparts. These differences have remained fairly stable since the pandemic began.
